Women haven’t been driven out. They were driven in, they were bribed to stay, and they left anyway.

Whoever wrote the article, whether male or female, was depicting women as victims.

Women too often play the victim card if they think they can get away with it. Boo hoo, we were driven out, we are victims, give us compensation.

This kind of morally superior victim pose got old a long time ago.

Oh the times article made me laugh so hard…

“Factors driving women away will eventually drive men away as well, she and others say.”

thats funny… the factors driving women away is the reason that attracts men. you cant game the system. a computer system operates 100% by logical principals which execute in exact quantities.

The one thing that she will not do is step in larry summers doo doo and realize that computer science is MATH, and that women do not appear in the higher IQ ranges where TALENT ends up outcompeting lower talent.

which brings me to the next line where someone steps in the crap and doesnt notice.

“Cheap labor is not high on the list,” Dr. Lazowska said. “It is access to talent.”

ah so thats the key! and whats your assumption dr lazowska? why are you immune to such loud dissonance.

no no… it cant be that the nerds have more talent at the geek things? that they are sufferers of BAP if not outright aspergers. no its the nerd image!!! as soon as we make nerds appear like captains of the football team, then make everyone believe that its the most beautiful cheerleaders that get computer science jobs, women will then feel compelled (because women are dumb and compellable), and will become computer scientists…

and american software engineering will be saved from the impending crisis that comes from the lack of a female equivalent and totally equal logic statement?

and thats the point. the computer is the perfect equality test and talent is what someone can do in a certain time and how many errors and points its met when analysed along requirements.

i am a computer science guy for most of the work i do. i juggle many tasks at once and they require social skills, time management, self control, self management, negotiating skills, and lots of other things on top of being able to write program code that fulfills what you say and what the client needs.

the computer dont care who makes it jump, it just does what its told exactly, whithout ambiguity, wanting to be told the exact same way, and reacting the exact same way. the computer requires unbending competence as they are incapable of bending at all for any reason other than competence.

and then comes the big WUMP!

Moving emphasis away from programming proficiency was a key to the success of programs Dr. Blum and her colleagues at Carnegie Mellon instituted to draw more women into computer science.

the business world is looking for talent, and they are moving away from proficiency as a way of drawing women in.

and now the numbers are up in the classes (As long as the women show good diversity), while other families are livid wondering why the son who worked his ass off and acheived is left on the sidelines.

meanwhile, how does that help the ‘future’ they are saving by sidelining some of those huge numbers of comp sci people that will be needed to save us from that crisis.

and the funniest part is the now old saw that women, like adobo, make everything better and their unique view is needed and has to be added.

here is the problem in a nutshell. computers are tough. writing software and interfacing with everthing is not easy. the human equation is also tough given that the client is unfair, and the bosses are ignorant, so you can get caugnt in the middle if you dont produce.

the other thing is that its an area in which lots of progress is made and where incremental increases are worth it, so it changes a lot. which means that you spend a lot of time constantly learning in a way that other jobs you dont.

performance is key, and the computer is unforgivingly fair. it takes a lot of time from your life. its challengine only on an intellectual level and no one will understand you if you talk to them about something you did. and your maried to your work in which you can be called at night and during the weekend and have to tie in.

so the whole thing rots on the female spectrum. they cant game the computer, there is no way to get someone else to help. the time they would rather spend socializing or shopping or entertaining, etc… they have to spend cracking a book or working on a new algorithm, or coming up with standards that work and arent contradictory. and then have to compete with egg heads and lose to them to their better solutions.

nope… nerd image is not going to change much.
